Watercolor
en plein air
I prefer painting on location to experience and capture the sights, sounds, and atmosphere of a place. Because light and shadows change constantly, I find painting ‘en plein air’ a thrill and challenge. Since watercolor is especially sensitive to nuances in the environment, such as humidity and heat, I must notice subtle changes and constantly adapt my methods to accommodate nature in the moment. Standing at my easel, squinting to note values and eliminate details while soaking in the warmth of the sun or battling wind makes me feel one with the world and truly alive.
