About WatercolorGear™
The inspiration for Watercolor Gear came from founder Marcia Willman’s personal experience painting on location. She struggled with commercially available plein air watercolor equipment that required her to bob up-and-down between her art supplies on a tray near her knees and her watercolor paper at standing height. She found leaning over the standard tray situated on a tripod between her and her painting difficult to maneuver and a strain on her back after an hour or two on location.
Marcia tried a number of different plein air setups finding all of them to have this front tray arrangement or a bulky wooden box so none of them were adequate for her needs. Over several years, she designed her own field gear, constantly tweaking her designs through several iterations to create the best solutions for ergonomic, yet, lightweight, and mobile gear that is easy to set up and pack away.
While attending plein air events as well as browsing photos of other watercolor artists on social media, she noticed that many artists were facing similar struggles with their plein air equipment. That’s when she realized every watercolor artist could benefit from her designs, decided to put her engineering skills to good use, and WatercolorGear™ was born. WatercolorGear™ is a revolution in plein air field gear and the best watercolor plein air equipment available for painting on location. It is the only lightweight watercolor set-up on the market that is ergonomic.
